We spent 5 minutes with the very talented Katie Smith, from Kate of Arcadia, we talked about the importance of a womens handbag, risks and the bright future for Kate of Arcadia.

1.  Tell us how, and why you ended up where you are today (re. Kate of Arcadia)?

Kate ( Born Katie Smith ) Arcadia ( Renaissance definition - Beautiful, un-spoilt, harmonious wilderness ). I studied Graphic Design which may not have been the best choice of degrees, however this is where I learnt about creativity,
jump forward 8 or so years, many many hundreds of hours learning and then practicing and refining my sewing and pattern making skills and this is where I am at now. Would have been great if there was someone to learn from or teach me but then in saying that being self taught I think means you have a different level of understanding and appreciation. KofA is a reflection of a journey of ups and downs of where I am with my design practice at the moment.

2. Have you always wanted to start your own label?

Yes I have always wanted to create and naturally when you are creating for your own label you have much more free reign. For me this is the main drawcard for beginning and building an independent label. If you are a creative person and you are not able to create it makes life hard.

3. Why should we (women) invest in a great bag?

A good handbag is something that you rely on, that goes with you everywhere literally. There is probably no other one item that you would wear and trust with as many personal belongings as the humble handbag. At any one time it would hold everything and anything, so to invest in a great bag it would not only do all of its 'tasks' to the best level it would also look great, add to any outfit and be something that you fall in love with.

4. What is the greatest risk you have ever taken?

I may be carrying it out now !

5. Which designers do you look up to, and why?

There is something to be admired and learnt from every designer no matter the size or style. Favourites would be YSL, Phillip Lim, Givenchy, Sonia Rykiel.

6. What is the future of Kate of Arcadia, where would you like to be in 5 years?

I would love Kate of Arcadia to become known and trusted as a go to accessory label where people can find something to love be it a guy / girl / whoever / what ever your need may be with designs that are new and fresh and excite viewers / wearers as much as it excites me by designing them !

This winter starts, and ends, with seriously stylish winter coats and jackets.

Trending this winter is the contrasting leather sleeve, as worn by Olivia Palermo, Nicole Richie and Zoe Saldana.

Nom*d have injected leather panelling into the sleeves, waist ties, elbow pads and collars of their winter collection - 'Do Not Disturb'. Our favourite pieces include the uber cool Kubrick Jacket and the dreamy Grande Coat.

We nabbed the uber-busy designer extraordinaire, Juliette Hogan, for 5 minutes of her time to answer, well, 5 questions.

1.  Your Winter 2012 collection has a bit more sass ‘n’ beef to it than your previously soft ‘n’ sweet – where did you find inspiration for this collection?

I'm not really sure. I think as I'm getting a little bit older I want my clothes to reflect that. It's a little bit more grown up and a little bit more tough...It's for a confident girl with a hint of masculine style.

2.  What do you predict to be the next big trend for Winter 2012? (And would you go there yourself?)

Trends are a funny thing aren't they? chunky with dainty is what I'm going to be wearing. Our granty collars are perfect for pairing with a delicate vintage dress.

3.   What does ‘beauty’ mean to you?

Loving what you have and being content, and knowing how to use it with pride.

4.   If you could choose three people, dead or alive, to come over to your place for an impromptu wine tasting (with cheese); who would they be and why?

    Can they be fictional?

   Yes.

Mary from Downton Abbey - she's amazing.

Jeanette Walls - I have just read her autobiography 'the glass castle' and would love to spend time with her chatting more about her childhood

...and Johnny Depp - he's such a babe!

5.  What is most precious to you this 2012?

My family, my new house, my friends, fresh air, swimming in the sea... laughing out loud.

As part of celebrating Twenty-Seven Names this week at Precious Peg we spent a very quick - but very funny 10 minutes with the lovely Anjali, one half of  the designer duo...

What was the inspiration behind the Still Waters Run Deep collection?
We are always inspired by contemporary art, and this season we combined that with things we saw while travelling in Japan; specifically Mori girls, who dress in a simple, natural way. We mixed this in with the brighter, more fruity style on offer in Japan.

What piece are you wearing most often from the collection?
I love the heartbreaker shirt, with the two toned heart print.

What has made you laugh most in 2011?
My friend Alex and I made a video invite for our 'Dawson's Creek' themed flat warming, cutting our friends into the intro - in our minds it was non-stop hilarity.

Where are you heading for a holiday this summer?
We're probably going to work through - it's a busy time for us, but we'll make up for it in March/April and hopefully head over to Japan again.

What is your most precious possession?
My family.

What are you looking forward to the most about 2012?
Possibilities.
